A.M. General Bargaining update 7/10/2025

A Strong Union, A Strong Future
Brothers and sisters,
We want to let you know about the latest developments in our bargaining process. Your Bargaining Committee remains committed to protecting and advancing your rights, especially in the areas of seniority and skilled trades.
Seniority Rights:
In past negotiations, management has proposed adjustments that weakened the role of seniority through job postings and layoff/recall procedures. We are actively pushing back on any language that undermines the value of your years of service, and we’ve proposed improvements that would enhance transparency and fairness in all seniority-related decisions.
Skilled Trades:
Our skilled tradespeople are vital to our operations, and the Union is making it clear that we oppose the dilution of skilled trades classifications and responsibilities. We are demanding stronger protections around seniority, task assignments, and movement. Additionally, we will be negotiating for equitable compensation, meaningful training opportunities, and safe staffing levels. The employer has shown interest in more "flexibility" in task allocation — our position is that flexibility should not mean exploitation or erosion of the trades’ value.
If the company truly values stability, productivity, and long-term success, then it must start by valuing its workforce in real, material terms. That means fair wages, secure pensions, strong benefits, and enforceable rights.
We are here not just to negotiate a contract — we are here to ensure our members are respected, protected, and economically recognized for what they bring to A.M. General every single day.
That is what you expect. That is what we will continue to fight for!
In Solidarity,
Your UAW Local 5 Bargaining Committee
